Road Off Bikes |

Good Morning Residents,
Yesterday, PC BROWN and I were in the area on patrol, providing a visible presence in the community when we saw a motorcycle coming towards us. The rider then took evasive action and ducked down into a nearby side road in what was a clear attempt to avoid detection. We followed and eventually caught the rider, who was too young to hold a driving license or insurance, and was also not even wearing a helmet or any safety gear, putting themselves at considerable risk of injury in the event of a collision.
As a result, the bike was seized from the youngster and they were dealt with accordingly. A very expensive lesson to learn as the bike is worth £800 and will likely be crushed. We receive a lot of reports of young people riding around on bikes that are not road legal, and in an anti-social manner which puts innocent members of the public at risk. As your local beat officer, this is one of my priorities and I am intent in reducing the frequency of this sort of behaviour.
I will emphasise that using an e-bike or off-road bike on a road comes with the same requirements that a car does: a driving license, insurance and a valid MOT certificate. Those caught riding these bikes without these things will face having the bikes seized, and will be prosecuted.
From your local Beat officers
PC BROWN and PC WARNER
